What if Harry Potter had been American? How would the series change?

The Harry Potter series is a staple of the amazing things Britain has given us but what if he was an American? Would we love it as much?

Often we ask ourselves “What if” questions about the Harry Potter series and now that we have an American wizarding school, I want to know what if Harry was American? I mean, I’m sure the series wouldn’t change that much. We just wouldn’t have little British-isms in it and everyone wouldn’t be posh.

There’d be a lot more southern accents and probably at least one kid at Hogwarts would loved guns. (As an American who was educated in the south, I feel as if it is safe for me to say this.) I think the series would be interesting but I don’t necessarily think it would be better.

Harry is already a drama queen so imagine him as an American. He’d be almost insufferable. I also think there’d be at least one California surfer dude at Hogwarts (or Ilvermorny) and it would be incredible. But again, I don’t think it’d do the overall series any favors.

So maybe, now that we know a little about Tina and Queenie, we’ll get an American story? It’d be nice to explore the wizarding community in modern day here in the United States even if it doesn’t include any of our favorites.

But I often wonder how the American wizards would react to someone like Trump being president. Would they be reminded of the time Voldemort reigned down upon the entire wizarding community? Would they have a fear of what was to come? Or would they be relaxed since they could literally do magic to stop things from being too terrible?

Next: Will we ever get to hear Bruce Springsteen’s Harry Potter song?

Whatever would happened, it would be an interesting world to see and I hope we get to learn more about our very own wizarding community as we get closer and closer to the next Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them movie.
