Taylor Swift Faces Lawsuit Over ‘Shake It Off’
Taylor Swift is being sued.
According to a new report, two songwriters are claiming that they wrote a song similar to Swift’s “Shake It Off” 16 years ago and now, years after the release of Swift’s track, they are hoping to score a big payday.
On September 18, TMZ shared a report with readers in which they revealed that Nathan Butler and Sean Hall released a song titled “Playas Gon’ Play” in 2001 that reached #81 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. As the outlet explained, the female group 3LW sang the track that the two men wrote.
In their lawsuit against Swift, Butler and Hall claim that 20 percent of “Shake It Off” is theirs.
Who are Nathan Butler and Sean Hall?
While the songwriter is making news today for his case against Swift, that isn’t his only claim to fame. In fact, Butler has quite the resume, having working with a number of popular acts, including the Backstreet Boys, Christina Milian, Aaron Carter, and Victoria Beckham.
As for Hall, he has worked with a number of popular acts as well, including Justin Bieber, Lionel Richie, Pink, and Maroon 5.

In response to the lawsuit against Swift, the singer’s rep released a statement to TMZ, claiming that Butler and Hall’s lawsuit against Swift in nothing more than a “money grab” and assuring fans that the two men have no case against her.
The rep also labeled the lawsuit as “ridiculous.”
As for Swift, she’s remained completely silent in regard to the case.
