Taylor Swift Leads The Pack of the Return of Women in Hot 100

Changes are coming when it comes to the Billboard Hot 100 Charts. Yes, the end of the “Despacito” reign is coming to an end and Taylor Swift is moving in leading the pack of the return of women on the charts.
Swift’s “Look What You Made Me Do” dethroned Justin Bieber’s “Despacito” making Swift the first female artist to hit No.1 on the charts in 2017. The last female to do so was Halsey with her hit “Closer” featuring The Chainsmokers last November. According to Billboard, this is only if we are talking features. As a whole, Swift is the first female to appear as a lead artist on a No.1 track since Sia’s “Cheap Thrills” last year, and the first totally solo artist since Adele’s “Hello” in 2015.
Following Swift are female artists from Demi Lovato to Cardi B. This is the first time women have reigned the charts in a while. Earlier this year on the charts women was entirely absent for the first time since 1984. Thanks to Swift, the drought has changed.
Indeed, the singer-songwriter appears to be the remedy when it comes to dethroning a long reign of men on the charts. As soon as she starts leading, other women follow and that’s a good thing. It speaks volumes of who Swift is as an artist and a female in the industry. There’s no telling what her sixth studio album reputation will do on the charts, but we can guess that it’s going to be huge. Even bigger than Adele’s latest album 25.
