Caro is already intimately familiar with the workings of Disney’s filmmaking. She directed 2015’s McFarland USA and is set to direct Disney’s upcoming live action adaptation of Mulan. As she told Time, “I have daughters, so I’m down with all princesses, but I’m particularly down with Mulan.”

One of the most beloved characters of the Star Wars franchise is Princess—now General—Leia Organa. After The Force Awakens, young Star Wars fans got another heroine to look up to: Rey. Caro’s instinct to highlight female badasses at the center of the story could only further Rey’s development in Episode IX.

So far, Caro’s work has mostly reflected cultural divides, Star Wars would present the perfect opportunity to take things to a galactic scale. It’d be nice to see what she could do with it.
