Blade Runner 2049 isn’t going to be a short trip to the theater
Apparently Blade Runner 2049 is going to have the longest runtime for a blockbuster since Interstellar. Which let me tell you, it is long.
Love Blade Runner? Excited about Blade Runner 2049? Well buckle in because it is rumored to be a whopping two hours and forty three minutes. Now here is my philosophy on it: All movies should be ten minutes shorter.
It is what my friend says, it is what Groundhog Day the Musical says, and it is what we should all say. Why? Because you can always cut ten minutes out of your movie. Now hearing that the highly anticipated Blade Runner sequel is pushing three hours makes me want to ask who didn’t cut something?
I get it, we all love Blade Runner and want to see the continuation of Rick’s story. But this is ridiculous. A nearly three hour movie is going to definitely be too long. Again, we’re not sure if that is the actual runtime. Currently, it is just a rumor.
What’s interesting is that the original Blade Runner is under two hours. So for the sequel to be pushing three seems a bit outrageous. And maybe this storyline is a lot harder to tell but if Ridley Scott gave us the entire world of Los Angeles in 2019 in less than two hours, why does the sequel need to be so much longer?
The movie itself seems pretty amazing. I, personally, am very excited. It is one of my favorite movies and I can’t wait to see where Rick is now. I’m just going to have to make sure to bring my dinner and use the bathroom beforehand or else I’ll miss part of the movie.
