1. The Diana Award
The Diana Award is a scholarship foundation created in the name of Diana for young people who want to change the world. William, Harry, and Kate are actively involved in the foundation, which promotes change in three key ways: driving, recognizing, and mobilizing. The scholarship foundation has grown tremendously since its inception, with programs that involve anti-bullying, mentoring, and social action. The Diana Award website states the the Diana award:
"“is given out in Diana, Princess of Wales’ name to young role models who are selflessly transforming the lives of others. We are looking to recognize young people going above and beyond in their daily lives to create and sustain positive change.”"
William and Harry presented the Legacy Awards to 20 young recipients in May at St James’ Palace. Both William and Harry gave speeches before handing out the awards, appreciating their mother and the impact she still has through young activists. William spoke about the stereotypes that surround young people and their lack of passion and involvement in social action:
"“Seated here today are twenty extraordinary young people who are doing just that. We are all too accustomed to stories about young people’s lack of connection to their communities and families. I see every day in my work, as our mother did in hers, that this just simply is not true – these 20 young people are just the tip of the iceberg. We all need to celebrate what today’s generation are achieving.”"
Harry added:
"“One of the things our mother taught William and I was the value of doing good when no one is watching. She visited hospitals late at night to comfort patients; she spent hours writing letters to privately support the work of others; she achieved a lot by shining a spotlight, but she worked just as hard when the cameras were gone. It is this spirit of quiet selflessness that unites the these 20 recipients of the Legacy Award.”"
