After the jury ruled in favor of Taylor Swift in her countersuit against former DJ David Mueller on Monday, she announced that she would be donating money to organizations that help survivors of sexual assault.
One of these organizations came to light today via The Huffington Post. According to Maile M. Zambuto, CEO of the Joyful Heart Foundation the publication that their company would be one of many that Swift will be donating to.
“Taylor is aware of the Joyful Heart Foundation and follows our work,” Zambuto told HuffPost. “Her team got in touch with me and we talked a lot about her commitment, all along throughout this ordeal, to wanting to be of service to survivors. ”
The foundation was founded in 2004 by actress, director, producer and advocate Mariska Hargitay. There are many points JHF that help survivors but Hargitay says that the number one focus is to let them know they aren’t alone.
Zambuto, who is a survivor herself thinks that it was powerful to watch Swift come forward and stand up against sexual assault. ″I think it was really important to see someone like Taylor to stand up to her abuser so publicly because there are so much secrecy and shame associated with sexual assault,” Zambuto told HuffPost. “Taylor had a choice to do this quietly ― to risk less ― and instead, she took this path as a survivor and as a symbol of strength and a source for so many survivors who feel really alone.”
The amount Swift has donated has not been announced. The Joyful Heart is the first of many organizations Swift will be donating to. If you want to find out more information about the Joyful Heart Foundation, you can head over to their website.
