Cameron Esposito and Rhea Butcher: Wonder Woman of the Week
NBC announced this week that comedy-centric streaming service Seeso will be shuttered, prompting comedians and married couple Cameron Esposito and Rhea Butcher to spring into action.
Today’s Wonder Woman of the Week is a two for one. After NBC announced on Wednesday that it was shuttering its comedy-focused streaming service Seeso comedians and married couple Cameron Esposito and Rhea Butcher jumped into action. The pair were the creators and showrunners of the buzzy Seeso series Take My Wife, based on Esposito and Butcher’s real life marriage, and when they got the news about the platform shutting down they took to Twitter to see if they could get some fan fuel in their quest to find a new home for their groundbreaking show.
As Esposito tweeted Wednesday afternoon, Take My Wife was created by a team of all-female writers and 43 percent women of color, a rare feat in a white male-dominated industry. Their season two cast was also 54 percent LGBTQ, and the show featured original music and costumes created by queer musicians and queer-friendly clothing companies.
"“Changing the power dynamics in television can be done,” Esposito said. “With Seeso’s help, strong guidance from Comedy Bang Bang (our production company) and a mandate between Rhea & I as showrunners that we came here to claim our space and make room for others, we did it. You can too.”"

The couple’s efforts haven’t landed them an official new place for the show yet, but with the amount of buzz they’re getting, and the proven power of passionate fandoms (Sense8 landed its finale after all) recently, we’re hoping for the best.
