Taylor Swift’s mother, Andrea, took the stand on her behalf on Wednesday, August 9, and recounted the moments that followed David Mueller’s alleged assault against the singer.

As the took the stand, Andrea was understandably emotional while speaking of her daughter’s distress.

“I went into the dressing room and I saw her face. I could see that there was something horribly wrong. She [Swift] said, ‘Mom, a guy just grabbed my a**,'” Andrea recounted in court, according to an August 9 report by the Daily Mail.

How did Taylor Swift feel after the reported assault by David Mueller?

Andrea, who is also mom to Swift’s younger brother, Austin, broke down as she spoke to the jury about how her daughter felt “destroyed” in the moments that followed the alleged assault.

“One of the things I think that stuck with me [about that night] was that [Taylor] couldn’t believe that after the incident, after he grabbed her, that she thanked him for being there. She said thank you. It was destroying her that she said that after someone did that to her. It made me question why I taught her to be so polite in that moment.”

Why didn’t Taylor Swift immediately go to police?

According to Andrea, Swift opted against contacting police because she feared she would have to relive the invasive moment again and again if she did so.

“I did not want her to have to live through endless memes and gifs and anything else tabloid media or internet trolls would be able to come up with; making her relive this awful moment over and over again,” she explained.
