Taylor Swift’s Trial is Not a Tourist Attraction

Today, August 7 is when the trial between Taylor Swift and DJ David Mueller begins. The jury is being selected and everyone is anticipated what the verdict will be. But that’s not all that is happening here. Some people are treating this trial like it’s some kind of tourist attraction or concert. This is far from the truth.

Sexual assault is a real issue that many people face on a daily basis. It’s a crime that could happen to anyone, and yes, even Taylor Swift. What Swift is dealing with this week is bigger than what you think. She’s speaking up for women, men, and sexual assault victims all over the world, and in her defense, she deserves victory. Most importantly, Swift is human like the rest of us.

We know that Denver will be filled with onlookers this week as the trial progresses, but if you are an onlooker, leave your sign at home and don’t bother asking Swift for a photo. It’s like she won’t want to get one with you.

This week, it’s not about her new music or wanting a new single. It’s abut supporting someone who has been a part of such a heinous crime. We want her to get justice because that’s simply what Swift deserves. She will be donating any money made from the trial to organizations that assist and protect women against sexual assault.

So before you go in front of the court house with your flashy sign, read headlines making fun of the trial or going so far as treating this trial as a tourist attraction, think before you act. Ask yourself, if it were you, would you want it to be treated like a fun concert or event?

Of course this trial is publicized and there is nothing wrong with wanting the facts and wanting Swift to get justice. But this isn’t an opportunity to rip on Swift, and it most certainly isn’t a meet and greet opportunity. Don’t treat Swift’s pains and struggles like they’re some kind of attraction.

Swift has our full support and prayers during this time.
