Throwback Thursday: The “Mine” Music Video
By Kara Johnson
Do you remember where you were when you first watched Taylor Swift’s music video for “Mine”? At the time, it was a music video that was grown up for Swift and we all fell in love with it. We still love it to this day.
While the country star turned pop has come a long way since the Speak Now Era, we will always look back and think about what a magical era it was. And it all began with “Mine”. The music video takes us on a journey with a couple who falls in love, fights through trials, and starts a family. It’s a beautiful picture of what real love looks like through the lens of Swift.
The music video captures the story of the song effortlessly, and it’s exactly how Swift wanted it. In a web chat before the song was even released, Swift explained what it was about. “It’s a song that is about my tendency to run from love. It’s sort of a recent tendency. For me, every really direct example of love I have had in front of me has ended in goodbye and has ended in breakups. So I think I’ve developed this pattern of running away when it is time to fall in love and stay in a relationship,” she says.
“This song is about finding the exception to that and finding someone who would make you believe in love and realize that it could work out. I’m never, ever going to go past hoping that love can work out. I’m always going to be very hopeful and blindly optimistic when it comes to love, even if it does seem like it’s very hard.”
It sure seems like songstress portrayed the story perfectly. Here are some facts you didn’t know about the video:
- The video received a Video of the Year Award at the CMT Music Awards in 2011
- Maroon 5 has covered this song and it was epic
- The song was ranked at No.46 on the Billboard Hot 100 Songs of the Year
- The music video was directed by Swift and Ronan White
