Florida: Tomorrowland

Florida is filled with iconic settings. From the space shuttle blasting off from Cape Canaveral to the pastel colored, Art Deco-lined streets of Miami Beach, Florida has been featured in many movies.  A quick look at some recent popular movies and the references are many. Just a trip around Florida could include stops like the Daytona 500, Key West, and Ybor City. The trip could take several weeks.

One of the most visited cities is Orlando. Of course, a Disney World trip is a rite of passage for many families. But, one Disney movie has two ties to the Sunshine state. Tomorrowland is our movie road trip choice for Florida.

The first reason for choosing Tomorrowland is obvious: its ties to Disney World. The movie features several areas of the Magic Kingdom theme park. Specifically, the Carousel of Progress was used in the film. While the theme park area may seem a little less futuristic today, the area plays well with the movie. Fans can get their own Tomorrowland pin at Magic Kingdom. While the pins sold at the park might not have special powers, they make for a fun souvenir.

Tomorrowland features another Florida locale. New Smyrna Beach is the Newtons’ home town. For people who visit Orlando, New Smyrna Beach is about an hour from Orlando. The beachside town is a great break from all the theme parks. The quaint beachside community offers a variety of shops, restaurants, and beach fun. From surfing to even driving on the beach, the community is a delightful beach getaway from the tourist-packed Orlando.
