Taylor Swift was faced with Kanye West’s “Famous” last year and now, she’s been faced with another shocking song. However, the latest track may not be what it seems.

Following the release of Father John Misty’s “Total Entertainment Forever,” in which he sings about having virtual reality sex with Swift, Arcade Fire’s Win Butler is speaking out in his defense.

In Father John Misty’s song, a lyric states, “Bedding Taylor Swift every night inside the Oculus Rift/After mister and missus finish dinner and the dishes,” but according to Butler, the singer was actually criticizing West for his 2016 track.

What did Father John Misty mean?

“The line, he says, is Tillman having a pop at Kanye West, whose song about making Taylor Swift famous really is ‘strange and not right’, in Win’s eyes,” the Sunday Times explained, via NME.

What is Father John Misty saying about the track?

Father John Misty also defended his Swift lyric, telling listeners to “not assume that everything about the way we live is the direct product of progress.”

“I think that that’s important — to not assume that everything about the way we live is the direct product of progress. The fact of the matter is, I don’t want that to happen to Taylor Swift. That is the worst thing I can think of; that is so horrible,” he said. “But again, this plays into progress, where like, the internet was supposed to be this new democracy, a utopia of information where everyone had a voice and we were all interconnected, and we would experience true democracy — and it turned into pornography, followed only by outrage.”
