Many were always wary of Johnny Depp’s casting as Gellert Grindelwald but with this new bout of allegations, should he remain in the Harry Potter universe?
There are news reports saying that Johnny Depp may be charged in Australia for illegally bringing dogs into the country. These sources are saying that Depp willingly brought in the dogs after being told that it was, in fact, illegal to do so.
This news come shortly after Depp’s former management team also confirmed that the actor physically abused his ex-wife, actress Amber Heard. In all honesty, it puts Johnny Depp in a very bad light and one that I personally wish was not associated with this series.
But while what’s done is done and we have already seen him as Gellert Grindelwald, it does bring up the question about the Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them sequel. Will Depp be a part of it? Even with all these allegations and stories against him?
We’ve talked at length about why Johnny and his newly found past doesn’t really work with the series. But for a refresher, this series features a boy who was verbally abused by his aunt and uncle for most of his life. Fantastic Beasts even features a storyline where Credence is abused by his mother.
So it’s pretty obvious why there isn’t a place for someone like Depp in this franchise. And now that Heard’s story is backed in a way, and Depp is in trouble for something else entirely, it makes me, personally, wish for someone else to take the role.
Honestly, give us the Jude Law/Colin Farrell love story we all want and need in our lives.
