Tom Hardy will suit up for Sony starting later this year as reports break that Venom will begin shooting this September in Atlanta and New York City.
Things for the Venom movie are moving along a lot more quickly than anticipated. In addition to rolling out Spider-Man: Homecoming next month, Sony wants to start production on Venom as soon as possible.
For the most part, Sony has consistently released new information since they first announced that they were making a Venom film. Shortly after the initial announcement, the studio cast Tom Hardy in the role of Eddie Brock. Of course, we first met Brock several years ago when Topher Grace played the character in Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man 3. His performance didn’t set well with audience members, but Hardy definitely seems more suited for the role.
And according to the new reports, he’ll be suiting up soon when Venom begins principal photography in September. They’ll shoot in Atlanta (a very common shooting area for films) and New York City. Obviously, the latter is where Venom’s No. 1 nemesis Spider-Man lives and where Brock got his start as a tabloid journalist.
Although, the lingering question on everyone’s mind remains: If Spider-Man is now in the MCU, but Venom is decidely not, then how are they going to make a Venom movie without Peter Parker?
While it can be done, the story will obviously deviate a lot from what many comic fans know and love. On the other hand, Sony can also go for that R-rating that many comic book films are going for these days (like Deadpool and Logan). Which means, this can turn out to be a much more compelling film than the ultra high-school vibe that Spider-Man: Homecoming promises to drop.

Currently, Venom plans to hit theaters in October 2018, so if Sony stays on track, they’ll most likely hit that target date.
