Taylor Swift and Katy Perry have reportedly been at odds for years but did the “Wildest Dreams” singer skip Monday’s Met Gala because of their feud?

Several reports in recent weeks suggest Swift is busy with her new album but according to one new report, Perry’s presence during Monday’s event may have been the real reason Swift stayed away.

On May 3, a report by MStarz suggested Perry may have had a lot to do with Swift’s decision to skip the Met Gala. The outlet also noted that while Entertainment Tonight claimed weeks ago that Swift was working on new music, fans continue to wonder if her feud with Perry kept her from fashion’s biggest night.

When did Taylor Swift and Katy Perry’s relationship turn sour?

Swift and Perry were believed to be friends years ago but after three dancers from Swift’s 2012 tour left her for Perry’s 2013 tour, their relationship reportedly took a turn for the worse. A short time later, Swift reportedly confirmed their feud during a 2014 interview with Rolling Stone magazine. However, she didn’t name Perry. Instead, she said that she and another well-known artist were “straight-up enemies.”

Taylor Swift and Katy Perry both dated John Mayer

Swift and Mayer struck up a relationship with one another in 2009 and after they split, Swift reportedly penned “Dear John” about the singer. On the track, Swift sang, “Don’t you think I was too young to be messed with?”

After the song’s release, Mayer told Rolling Stone magazine, via Billboard, that he was “humiliated” by the single but Swift insisted she never confirmed “Dear John” was written about Mayer.

“How presumptuous! I never disclose who my songs are about,” Swift said while chatting with Glamour.

In 2014, Perry and Mayer began dating.
