Big Riverdale Casting News: Some New Faces For Season 2

There’s lots of Riverdale casting news this week with two big announcements about changes to the lineup. You won’t believe who’s coming and going.

We’ve got two major bits of Riverdale casting news to bring you this week, and it spells big changes for the freshman soap.

Earlier this week, The CW announced the addition of Mark Consuelos to the season two roster. Rumor has it that Consuelos will come on to play Veronica’s sketchy, jailbird dad, Hiram.

He’s slated to become a “series regular” as long as he can sort out all his other commitments — to include his stint on FOX’s baseball drama, Pitch.

In more casting news, it looks like we’ll be getting a new Reggie as well. The actor who played Archie’s main antagonist, Ross Butler, is a series regular on the smash hit, 13 Reasons Why. 13 Reasons has been picked up for a second season, leaving Butler little time to devote to the role.

Showrunner and executive producer, Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa said in a statement to TVLine, “We love what Ross did with the role of Reggie [this season], but because of his commitments to other projects, we couldn’t use him nearly as much as we would have liked.”

He went on to confirm the rumors that they haven’t yet found our next Reggie, as yet. “[Next season], we want more Reggie on our show — he’s Archie’s rival! — and because Ross is unavailable to come back to Riverdale, we’re looking for a new Reggie. Those are big shoes to fill, but we’re confident we can find an actor who is as funny and sexy as Ross. And of course we all wish Ross the best.”
