Kelly Taylor – Beverly Hills, 90210
She’s our ’90s dream, and I still wish I had every single item in Kelly Taylor’s closet. In fact, as I watch reruns of my favorite teen drama, I begin to notice that I actually did have a lot of her clothes. She was such a style icon for me, and so many other ’90s babies, that she left an indelible mark in how I dress myself.
In a fashion moment rife with bra tops, high-waisted jeans, and heavy bangs, Kelly made every single trend look like it was invented for her. California girls became the hot thing again, and girls across the country went scrambling to their local mall every Thursday after the show aired the night before.
What I wouldn’t give to be able to rock a white bustier and fiery red blazer, and have the confidence to cruise the coastal highways in a red Beamer. She was a little more understated than her bestie Donna, and you wouldn’t ever see her wearing a hat with a giant sunflower attached. On the other hand, she was much more daring than the Midwestern third in her group, Brenda. Striking the balance between outlandish and dowdy, Kelly was the “it” girl we all wanted to be.
