It’s pretty normal for a Grey’s Anatomy fan to find themselves vehemently defending the series on a regular basis. Even when we’re celebrating unproblematic triumphs — like Ellen Pompeo directing her first episode after 13 seasons — someone always has to come along and spoil the fun by saying something like, “I can’t believe that show’s still on. It’s not even that good.”

Look, we all know what Grey’s Anatomy is and is not. It is cheesy goodness, hot doctors and all the feels. However, its quality is not open for discussion. Because the reality is, we’re not here for the writing anymore. Or at least, I’m not. And for the record, the writing’s really good albeit a little inconsistent. But I’m here for Meredith Grey and Owen Hunt and April Kepner and Richard Webber and Arizona Robbins and Alex Karev. I’m here to make sure they all get their happy ending in some capacity or another.

I’m here to see this through to the end, come hell or high water. Even if that means I have to watch Richard act like a spoiled child every week.

Obviously, I know that these are fictional characters. But the emotions are real. The struggles are real. Maggie’s mom has cancer — I know how hard that is to cope with. Further, I know what it’s like to be Maggie and filled with regret about saying awful things before you fully understood the situation.
