The new trailer for Fast 8: The Fate of the Furious shows a lot of car explosions and Dominic Toretto’s anguished turn to the dark side.
The success of the Fast and Furious franchise continues because of two things: fast-paced action and a diverse familia. Every movie stresses the importance of loyalty. Basically, as far as Dominic Toretto is concerned, you can build your family as easily as you build a 10-second car.
But The Fate of the Furious plans to blow that idea to pieces with several explosion sequences and Charlize Theron. Of course, she plays the film’s next villain, Cipher. Meanwhile, our previous villain, Shaw (played by Jason “Action Baller” Statham) gets the opportunity to partner with his BFF Hobbs. It goes without saying that both The Rock and Statham put together some nasty action sequences.
Although their fight scenes are believable and fun to watch, the better pairing of the franchise continues to be Letty and Dom. There’s just something about the chemistry between Michelle Rodriguez and Vin Diesel that really gets me. I totally believe that he’s been into her since they were kids or that he could fly across the interstate and catch her in mid-air. As ridiculous as some of the stunts tend to be in this franchise, Letty and Dom’s relationship grounds them in reality.
So Dom’s betrayal stings even more. Though, it appears he has “no choice.”

If people were afraid of “self driving” cars before, this trailer’s not going to help Elon Musk at all. One good hack and we can take over New York City! With so much action, it’s hard to tell which is the final “boss” scene — the submarine or thousands of hacked cars in New York City. Every time I say, “I don’t know what else they can do,” someone starts flying and there are torpedoes. It’s amazing.
Fast 8: The Fate of the Furious speeds into theaters on April 14.
