“Logan” Hit $9.5 Million In Thursday Shows, What Will It Reach This Weekend?

With rave reviews, it’s no surprise that “Logan” hit $9.5 million on Thursday night. Will it surpass everyone’s expectations this weekend?

Logan is fantastic. You could have guessed that from the score on Rotten Tomatoes or word of mouth from anyone who has already seen it (myself included!).

But as an R-rated comic book movie, it’s definitely a risk. It’s the second of its kind in recent years, and Deadpool surpassed everyone’s expectations.

It was reported earlier on Friday that Logan‘s Thursday night showings raked in a solid $9.5 million. Which doesn’t sound like a lot because we usually hear about opening weekend totals.

That $9.5 million surpasses what the last X-Men movie did ($8.2 million by Age of Apocalypse) and even Marvel’s Doctor Strange ($9.4 million). And if you want to know how it did against the last Wolverine movie (The Wolverine), well, that one only made $4 million.

All of the box office experts have put Logan at making right around $70 million, which is what they had pegged Deadpool at. And we all know how well that worked out.

It would come as no surprise if Hugh Jackman’s last outing as Wolverine hits somewhere well north of $100 million. This is a beloved comic book character and no matter how gritty and down-to-earth it is, fans will show up.

If it does do well, what does that mean for the rest of the X-Men universe? Might we see more movies that aren’t so colorful (a la Days of Future Past)? Or rather oddball characters we always hope make a cameo (my fingers are always crossed for Mister Sinister)?

And will Hugh Jackman ever join up with the Avengers like he wants? Heck, I never thought we’d get Spider-Man in the MCU. Stranger things have happened!

Regardless, the future looks bright for Logan this weekend. If you go, maybe bring a box of Kleenex.
