Hermione Granger herself, Emma Watson, faced Twitter backlash when someone shared a photoshoot of Emma and questioned her feminist stance.
For many, Emma Watson has been the feminist icon of their generation. Playing Hermione Granger, we all grew up being stronger women because of her. But it seems as if Twitter is taking the idea of ‘feminism’ and saying that women can’t also still be women.
Julia Hartley-Brewer, who is a radio host, decided to tweet this about a Vanity Fair photoshoot Emma did. Because, you know, women are meant to look like women anymore. If you have breasts, hide them! Because women can’t be both sexual beings and want to have equality.
I’m just saying, I can watch an Armani Code ad with my favorite actor walking around shirtless and he’s no less of a man but a woman with a slightly revealing top on is suddenly less? If that’s not sexist, I don’t know what is.
And I’m sure Julia thought she was being clever. She probably thought this was a bad image for feminism. And I’m probably giving this woman more credit than she deserves, but I can’t tear her down completely.
So maybe the next time that Julia thinks to comment on something a woman wears, remember that we all have the right to wear whatever we want and still want equality. It’s not fair that we have to be shamed because some people don’t appreciate a woman willing to wear something a little more revealing.

Emma, wear whatever you want. That’s the joy of being a free woman. You don’t have to conform to any idea of what a woman should be. Something that Julia needs to learn.
