Stephen Colbert Roasts Trump’s Speech, And We Are Here For It

You know we’re in a sad state of affairs when Stephen Colbert tells more truths than Donald Trump, but here we are, and there it is.

Last night, President Trump read the State of the Union address expertly from a teleprompter, causing much of the mainstream media to explode with delight over this “new Trump” while conveniently forgetting that the man is more than a few fries short of a Happy Meal.

The only one who seemed to not be taking in by this “new Trump” — who is about as good as “New Coke” — was Stephen Colbert, the American Thinking Woman’s Crumpet.

He went live to the Late Show right after the speech, and he tore Trump a whole new backside.

And we were delighted, to say the least.

Stephen Colbert was never one to hold his tongue, but he was absolutely on fire after the State of the Union address.

Perhaps the most caustic moment came, not when Stephen Colbert was calling out various parts of Trump’s speech — it’s not really news that Trump is a gasbag, is it? — but when he was calling out the Democrats for their tepid response to Trump’s obvious madness.

"“People who believe that Donald Trump is an existential threat to this nation, to the experiment of democracy, to Western civilization itself, take heart, because for their powerful rebuttal, the Democrats showed a rerun of ‘The Andy Griffith Show.’”"

However funny that comment was, Stephen Colbert was able to point out the truth of the old adage by Albert Einstein: The world is a dangerous place, not because of those who do evil, but because of those who look on and do nothing.
