Welcome to this edition of New Music Releases, wherein we talk about all of the newest music that will be coming out on Friday, March 3rd.
This edition is sure to be especially delightful for rock music fans (like this writer). While March is just the start of some amazing releases — Bob Dylan, Soundgarden, Chickenfoot, and Ray Davies (together with his son) are just a few of the many that we’ll be seeing — the first week of March gives us enough to whet our appetite.
So let’s take a look at the new music releases for the first week of March.
Colin Hay — Fierce Mercy
Those of you who only know Colin Hay thanks to Men At Work — or, worse, that ridiculous “Land Down Under” song — are missing out on some of the most amazing, and under-rated, musicianship of the modern era. As you can hear in the song above, there are “A Thousand Million Reasons” to check out Colin Hay as a solo artist, and in terms of new music releases, Fierce Mercy is one of the best you can hope for. He’s been releasing solid solo albums for a number of decades now, and it’s time to give him the respect he deserves.

John 5 and the Creatures — Season of the Witch
John 5 is best known for his work with Rob Zombie and David Lee Roth, but as the leader of his own band, he’s put forth one of the most anticipated new music releases with Season of the Witch. He’s one of the few musicians that understands how visual music is today, and he’s put out music videos for more than half of the tracks on the album.
"Track List:1. Book of Spells2. Black Grass Plague3. Guitars, Tits and Monsters4. Now Fear This5. Behind the Nut Love6. Making Monsters7. Dr. Evil’s Spook Show8. Here’s to the Crazy Ones9. The Macabre10. Triple D11. Hell Haw12. Ode to Jasper13. Season of the Witch"
Southside Johnny and the Asbury Jukes — The Fever: Remastered Epic Recordings
Southside Johnny and the Asbury Jukes have, unfortunately, been called the poor man’s Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band, but that’s a bit of an unfair assessment, because they’ve always had a musical style all their own. And of all the so-called new musical releases, this one’s not so much “new,” so much as it is a reissue of their classic album, The Fever. If you haven’t heard this woefully-underrated album, now’s the time to correct that.
