The Culturess Drinking Game for the Trump State of the Union Address

Tonight will bring Donald Trump’s first State of the Union address, and here are some things to look for (and drink because of).

Well, it has come to this. Tonight, Donald Trump will address a joint session of Congress. As CNN explains, it isn’t a State of the Union address because it just isn’t called that in a president’s first year of office. That’s the basic idea, though.

To help you get through it if you choose to watch, we here at Culturess have put together a list of drinking game rules. As per usual, no worries if you choose to drink something non-alcoholic, and you can define what counts as “a drink.” You could even just count how many times these things happen!

Let’s get down to it.

The address rules:

  • Drink every time Trump talks about the election or his victory in the electoral college.
  • Drink if Trump makes a policy proposal.
    • Finish your drink if it sounds like a proposal a former president would make.
  • Drink if you hear the following words:
    • “Bigly” / “big league”
    • “Tremendous”
    • “America first”
    • Anything about winning (this one is not for the faint of heart)
    • “Huge”
    • “Make America great again”
    • “Fake” / “fake news”
  • Drink if he talks about people who like him or who have praised him, but he doesn’t give their names.
    • If he points out some special guests and says they like him, finish your drink.

The audience rules:

  • Drink every time Paul Ryan and Mike Pence start a standing ovation.
    • Finish your drink if the Democrats don’t stand.
  • Take a drink if you spot someone like Nancy Pelosi flat-out scowling during the actual speech.
  • Drink every time Paul Ryan puts on his “serious and earnest face.” You’ve probably seen it.
  • Drink every time the camera cuts to the audience and someone looks displeased with what they hear.
  • Toast and drink if people pointedly avoid trying to get a handshake from Trump as he walks in.
