The 2017 Academy Awards only just concluded. Is it already time to start thinking about next year? You bet. Here’s the skinny on the 2018 Oscars.
This year’s Academy Awards have only just concluded, but it’s already time to start looking ahead to next year’s ceremony.
The 90th annual Academy Awards will take place on Sunday, March 4, 2018. The ceremony will once again air on ABC.
If the Oscars seem a little bit later than usual in 2018, that’s because they are. Every four years, the Academy delays the event to avoid the Winter Olympics, which will be taking place next February in Pyeongchang, South Korea.
Even though we’ve only just crowned this year’s best in movies, it’s not too early to discuss the potential 2018 Oscars films. Yes, speculation about what movies will take home the biggest prizes next year has already begun. The Independent ran a feature a couple of weeks ago declaring the 2018 awards season officially under way with the announcement of a release date for Black Swan director Darren Aronofsky’s latest film. The already-buzzy Mother stars Jennifer Lawrence and features a host of other big name celebs.
Per The Independent:
"The film’s October release date hints at possible festival appearances considering Toronto, Telluride and Venice all take place around that time.It seems likely that the film could throw Lawrence’s name into the awards ring for the 2017-18 season considering Aronofsky has an impressive track record in steering performances to award wins and nominations."
Want even more super early predictions? Kevin O’Keefe at Mic already spitballed an entire nomination field for the major categories. He’s even made his early picks to win. Whew. So you can start doing your research on next year’s (possible?) best films right now.
