This year’s nominees for Actor In A Supporting Role are:

- Lucas Hedges, Manchester by the Sea
- Dev Patel, Lion
- Michael Shannon, Nocturnal Animals
Last year’s Supporting Actor winner was Mark Rylance for his role in Bridge of Spies, winning out against Christian Bale in The Big Short, Tom Hardy in The Revenant, Mark Ruffalo in Spotlight, and Sylvester Stallone in Creed.
This year’s nominees’ characters include a drug dealer who takes a young, bullied boy under his wing (Mahershala Ali in Moonlight), an old-school Texas Ranger (Jess Bridges in Hell or High Water), a moody, orphaned teen (Lucas Hedges in Manchester By The Sea), a man looking to find his real family and his first home (Dev Patel in Lion) and a hard driven southern cop (Michael Shannon in Nocturnal Animals).
The range is wide, the characters all stellar on their own and as part of their ensembles, and each clearly deserving of the award.
