Oscars 2017: Complete List of Nominations

Best Director

This year’s nominees for Best Director are:

• La La Land, Damien Chazelle
• Hacksaw Ridge, Mel Gibson
• Moonlight, Barry Jenkins
• Manchester by the Sea, Kenneth Lonergan
• Arrival, Denis Villeneuve

Last year’s Best Director award went to Alejandro González Iñárritu for The Revenant, starring Leonardo Dicaprio, winning over an overall stacked category that year – Spotlight, The Big Short, Mad Max: Fury Road and Room were also up for directorial awards.

And this year isn’t much different. Chazelle’s La La Land has been dominating the awards circuit and Academy Award buzz for months, now, with Moonlight and Manchester By The Sea trailing not far behind, as far as buzz goes. Arrival has been discussed as one of Adam’s best works and something quite unique, and Hacksaw Ridge was an inspiring true story that now, more than ever, could lift spirits.

Each movie and each director in their own rights deserve this year’s award, and it’ll be a nail-biter to see who takes it home.
