The music industry’s most glamorous event airs tonight. Culturess has all the information you need on how to watch the 2017 Grammys.
Get your ballots and bingo cards ready, music geeks and casual awards show viewers. Tonight, The Recording Academy will crown the Best Album of 2016, among numerous other winners of vaguely arbitrary titles (what’s the difference between “Record of the Year” and “Song of the Year”? Only Wikipedia knows). That’s right: it’s the 59th Annual Grammys!
You may be wondering what the point is. To be sure, awards shows feel even more painfully frivolous than usual right now, with an attention-hoarding celebrity in charge of the government and society, in general, teetering on the brink of chaos.
The point is the frivolity, though. It’s almost comforting to know that, even in the worst of times, you’re still capable of seething with self-righteous rage when the wrong person wins an award or squealing with giddy delight when the right person wins. It’s the little things that matter. Besides, you deserve a break, just this once.
At least the Grammys, unlike the Oscars or Emmys, pretty much guarantee a few memorable or enjoyable moments. The awkward “comedic” banter is kept to a minimum, replaced by elaborate musical performances. This year’s set list includes the likes of Adele, Carrie Underwood, Daft Punk, John Legend, and, despite the recent news that she’s pregnant with twins, Beyoncé. Slated to present are artists such as Kelly Clarkson and Jennifer Lopez, as well as actors such as Taraji P. Henson, Laverne Cox, and Gina Rodriguez.
James Corden of The Late Late Show will host. He has experience with both comedy and music, and he did a decent job with last year’s Tonys, so there’s reason for hope.
Anyway, here’s where you can live stream the 2017 Grammys, which will be broadcast from the Staples Center in Los Angeles:
