Adele. What to say about Adele.

Adele Adkins is like the English Beyonce. She’s powerful, she sells a lot of albums, she’s got a voice that will blow your mind, etc. However, here’s the thing: Beyonce’s never won Album of the Year. (I know — what?!) Now, Adele won Album of the Year in 2011 for 21. Actually, she won a lot in 2011 (see above) but it was “Rolling in the Deep” that made her a household name. Her first album 19 didn’t have the same impact as the soul-crushing album that was 21 (or, hello, the mind-blowing bravado of 25).

Unfortunately, this year’s Grammys will pit 25 and the heart-wrenching “Hello” against Beyonce’s Lemonade, which is basically the same as 25 after 25 sipped some fireball and decided to say hello with a baseball bat instead of a phone call. Either way, both albums are full of heart. Both wins would be historical. But if Adele wins, she can lump herself with someone else on this list: Stevie Wonder. If she wins Album of the Year, she’ll join him as one of the only artists who won on consecutive releases. He was the last person to do it in the ’70s, and she can do it here.

Regardless, it won’t change the fact that Adele changed the tides of the music industry in 2011 and never looked back.
