20 Celebrities Who Have Changed The Way We View Gender
Elliot Fletcher
“Since I can remember, I have been a boy. I never once thought of myself as a girl. But when puberty and middle school came, I had to come to terms with the fact that others viewed me as a female. I went to an “all-girls” middle school and high school. For several years, I hated myself because I knew I was different. On several occasions, I thought it would be better if I was dead. I tried to kill myself twice because I thought it would just be easier to die rather than live my life as who I really was. Luckily, I was unsuccessful in both attempts. But after the second attempt, I realized that I shouldn’t pretend to be something I am not.”
Mostly known for his role in Freeform’s The Fosters, playing a transgender character named Aaron, Elliot Fletcher is breaking boundaries for not only transgender actors and actresses but how viewers see them on screen. He is one of the only trans actors to have a recurring role on a TV show, following huge names like Laverne Cox and Alexis Arquette.
He takes his role of a trans advocate very seriously and wants to spread the love and knowledge for the transgender community as much as he can.
