“Yeah, massively. To call yourself a feminist is to believe that men and women deserve equal opportunities. We live in an insanely patriarchal society. Sex is used to sell things, which I don’t mind, but in all of our videos, whenever we’ve used girls, we’re referencing the irony or the parody that should exist. In the “Girls” video, for instance, they’re all in ridiculous lingerie, and they’re all white and skinny, but it was a parody [of the music industry and of society].”
He describes himself as a “sexually confused Edward Scissorhands,” and is the frontman of pop sensation the 1975. He calls himself a feminist and it’s easy to see why. In all of the bands music videos, whenever women are used, it’s a parody on how women are viewed in mainstream media. He’s spoken out about our society and women in our society specifically. Healy knows he can use his music to touch others so that’s his main way of advocating equality.
