It’s been a long time coming but Marvel is finally giving us a queer Latina comic book lead and it’s no surprise that one cover has a Beyoncé vibe to it.
This queer Latina comic is necessary in the superhero world right now. It’s starring America Chavez and is written by Gabby Rivera. America originally appeared in Young Avengers but we all knew she was destined for bigger and better things. She was raised by two mothers in the Utopian Parallel, a dimension that is out of sync with the others. She has the power to travel between dimensions.
The comic, titled America, has a second issue that is set to come out in April. This cover was penned by Joe Quinones and is an obvious relation to Beyoncé’s “Formation” video.

Are we living for this or are we living for this? And if you’re anything like me, you’ll now want to listen to the song, so here you go:
At America’s side, she has her trusty teammates of Carol Danvers and Monica Rambeau. It’s fitting that the cover pays homage to Beyoncé as both ladies are prominent figures in each of their worlds, leading the fight to a more accepting world.
Marvel has had some previous problems with making their comic covers be based around a hip-hop album cover but luckily, they’ve hit no speed bumps with America’s Beyoncé note.
