First Full-Length Power Rangers Trailer Reveals Just About Everything

Lionsgate dropped the first full-length trailer for Power Rangers, which reveals the new suits, the Zords and Bryan Cranston as Zordon.

It looks like Lionsgate will be opting out of broad appeal for the Power Rangers franchise. Because its heavy-handed computer graphics are both cheesy and modern. If you’re new to Power Rangers or never really got into it, this trailer sets up an interesting story but skews really juvenile, almost like Max Steel, which unfortunately, flopped at the box office. But if you’re a die-hard Mighty Morphin’ fan, the Zordon and Alpha overhaul may be too different to roll with.

As the trailer makes clear, everything we see is alien technology. “Me and four kids found a spaceship buried underground,” Trini (Becky G) says at one point. “And I’m pretty sure I’m a superhero.”

Watch the trailer below:

I’m so torn on whether Elizabeth Banks looks cool or not. Her design works, but it would’ve been a lot nicer if she ditched the accent. If Lionsgate wanted a white actress, don’t ask her to do an accent. Also, we could’ve down without the hip-hop music. Though, it’s inclusion proves they rather hit the 2017 teenage crowd, and not the teenagers who watched this show in the ’90s. This identity crisis will probably hurt the movie.

But the Zords. I have no complaints about the Megazord other than I wish they would’ve saved the reveal for the movie. Now that I’ve seen it in action, I don’t even feel like I need to go see this in the movies. Obviously, March will be a competitive month with the release of Logan and the live action Beauty and the Beast. So Morphin’ time may become streaming time three months later.
