Perform motion capture for Dobby on the Warner Bros. studio tour

Warner Bros. had added an interesting new exhibit to its Studio Tour. For a limited time, visitors can perform motion capture for Dobby the house-elf.

Have you ever wanted to inhabit the body of Dobby? The plucky, self-mutilating house-elf who becomes Harry Potter’s trusted companion over the course of the book and film series? Well, you can’t. That’s impossible. But thanks to Warner Bros., you can now control his movements through the magic of motion capture, which may be the next best thing.

Warner Bros. has added a new, Dobby-centric feature to its Harry Potter exhibition at Leavesden Studios. For starters, visitors can take a look at the lifelike Dobby model that was used during the filming of the movies to let the actors know where the creature, who’s primarily a CGI creation, was in space. That model has always been on the tour, but now it has a more prominent position. (You can also see Dobby in the window of Harry’s childhood home at Number Four, Privet Drive, which is being reopened to the public.)

Warner Bros. had also found a way to make the CGI aspect of Dobby’s character come alive. Standing in front of a new display, visitors will be able to control Dobby’s movements, and see him rendered in three forms, from a wireframe model to the fully rendered house-elf.

Basically, we get to do motion capture for Dobby. Look for a lot of people to start bashing themselves with imaginary props.

This is the first interactive motion capture experience Warner Bros. has featured in its Harry Potter exhibition. It’s called Directing Dobby. You can go see it starting February 4 and running through March 31 of 2017. So hurry there fast!
