Come March, Emma Watson will star as Belle in Disney’s live-action Beauty and the Beast. Have a listen to her singing voice.
Disney’s live-action version of Beauty and the Beast, the company’s latest endeavor to repackage its line of classic animated movies for new audiences, comes out March 17. Emma “Hermione Granger” Watson stars as Belle, a book-loving French peasant who strikes up a romance with a fearsome beast, played by Dan Stevens. If you’ve seen the 1991 original, you will recall that the movie is a musical. Here, for reference’s sake, is the film’s main love song, “Something There.”
Now, Disney has released an audio clip of Watson singing this song from the live-action version. Have a listen:
I think we can all agree that the girl who played the brainy, competent Hermione in the Harry Potter movies is a good fit for the brainy, competent Belle, and she looks smashing in the costumes. Watson hasn’t had to sing for any of her prior film roles, but her voice has the kind of sweetness necessary to pull this part off. (In the animated movie, Belle was voiced by Paige O’Hara.) Hopefully Disney will release a few more clips before the movie, directed by Bill Condon, hits theaters.
The clip first came to the attention of the internet after Disney released a singing Belle doll into stores.

Note that those Instagram posts went up shortly before Disney uploaded the official version to the Beauty and the Beast Facebook page. This is just conjecture, but it looks like they saw the clips making their way around the internet and decided that as long as the audio was out there, it might as well release an official, firsthand version.
Both movie and soundtrack come out on March 17.
