Donations to Charities Testing Rape Kits

So you’re probably wondering how exactly a lot of talking about murder on a podcast does much. Well, other than giving women a place to feel like there are others out there feeling the same way they do, My Favorite Murder also puts words into action. After beginning to sell merchandise, Karen and Georgia decided to put some of the money made towards making a difference by supporting charities.

The first charity they began supporting on behalf of the podcast was End The Backlog, whose goal is to “shine a light on—and eliminate—the backlog of hundreds of thousands of untested rape kits in the United States”. Many of the cases discussed on My Favorite Murder were the result of repeat sexual offenders, often able to operate without ever being caught. Testing rape kits is a step towards eliminating chances of these criminals to repeatedly rape. The testing of rape kits also means that the victims of this terrible crime will maybe feel like someone cares enough to treat it as such. Currently, there are hundreds of thousands of untested rape kits across the country. End the Backlog also advocates “for comprehensive rape kit reform legislation and policies at the local, state, and federal levels.” This is obviously a very important feminist issue and it’s pretty cool that My Favorite Murder has taken it on as a cause they support.
