5. Pit Bulls & Parolees – Animal Planet – 6 a.m. Saturday to 6 a.m. Sunday

Pit Bulls are often misunderstood dogs. From time to time we’ll hear news stories about this breed, mostly about how they mauled a small child, or something equally horrific. But a pet is only as good as its owner, and sometimes, unfortunately, owners can be less than friendly to their pets. But not the folks from Pit Bulls & Parolees, and we’re happy to add this Animal Planet show to our rundown.

The show follows Tia Torres, the owner of the Villalobos Rescue Center, right outside of New Orleans, Louisiana. It’s where she has rescued and rehabilitated more than 400 Pit Bulls in order to adopt them away to a good home. The show is unique as we get to see these dogs individually paired up with ex-convicts who are out on parole. That way, not only are these dogs given a shot at redemption, their human counterparts are as well.

Pit Bulls & Parolees is already in its eighth season, and so far it’s still going strong. But don’t take our word for it, you can check out all the action for yourself with a New Year’s Eve marathon. The first episode airs at 6:00 a.m. Saturday, going on for a whole 24 hours until it ends at 6:00 a.m. Sunday morning. You may want to cuddle with your own furry friend for this one.
