Even Stevens: “One Heck of a Hanukkah”
Y’all remember when Shia LeBeouf was just a curly-headed little kid on an eccentric children’s show on the Disney Channel? Before he was the bizarre performance artist who wore a bag on his head? Even back then, we knew he was something … special, and his character Louis was infamous for his capers and shenanigans. One of the more popular shows for the tween set, Even Stevens was about the Jewish Stevens family with two siblings, Ren and Louis.
It was pretty silly, but canny and insightful enough to make bearable all those hours my daughter forced me to watch it. Louis was the vexing little brother to the bookish Ren, and Louis’ constant mischief was the infrastructure for the show.
In “One Heck Of A Hanukkah” Louis can’t wait for the holiday to arrive so he can get his eight days of gifts, so he hunts down the presents and launches an overly complicated scheme to smuggle them out, resulting in breaking them all. There’s also a spirit who grants him a wish, but the important part is Hanukkah is saved and everybody goes home happy.
“One Heck Of A Hanukkah” is the fifteenth episode of the first season, and you can watch it on YouTube.
