13. Dobby Decorating the Room of Requirement for Christmas

Dobby the house elf is probably a bigger fan of Harry Potter than some of us. Throughout the series, he continues to praise the young wizard and watches out for him through thick and thin. The best thing he did for Harry and the members of Dumbledore’s Army is decorate the Room of Requirement for Christmas.

It was such a dark year in Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix. Voldemort had returned and it seemed like no matter what, nothing good was happening. So having Dobby decorate the Room of Requirement for them was just a bright light in an otherwise depressing year.

The lights he hung read “Have a very Harry Christmas!” While we may find it cute, it also shows us the hero status that Harry has. He represents the fight for so many. Harry is the one that they look to for guidance, and even Dobby recognizes that. So he does what he can to praise Harry and it is extremely wonderful to see.

Dobby decorating the Room of Requirement proves that the Harry Potter series is a Christmas movie. Why? Because he selflessly does it for Harry and Dumbledore’s Army. That’s what the holidays are about. You help others without want of anything in return.
