22. She’s already the queen of sass

Sansa Stark? More like Sansa Snark, am I right? (I’ll see myself out). Sansa has a very dry sense of humor, coupled with a dry delivery of her jokes. This scene from Season 1’s “A Golden Crown” solidifies just how sassy she can be. She asks Septa Mordane what area she grew up in, only to interrupt by saying she doesn’t care. This more than likely stemmed from Cersei’s horrible influence, but it started Sansa on the snark path that helps her get through some of the toughest times in King’s Landing.

For many, humor or sarcasm is an outlet. The same goes for Sansa. She’s had to develop a keen sense of verbal ferocity in order to skate by in places she’s kept hostage. But at the same time, her true feelings are never not on display. Before the Battle of the Blackwater (“Blackwater”), there’s a particular line that cuts like a knife to anyone who’s a Tyrion fan. As he leaves for battle, Sansa remarks, “I will pray for your safe return, my lord. Just as I pray for the King’s.” It’s biting, but even Tyrion has to acknowledge that kind of panache.

Her humor also comes with a truth bomb in this scene when she knows Joffrey will be returning from the fight. “The worst ones always do.” Hilarious and painful all at the same time.
