Anti-Defamation League

The Anti-Defamation League (ADL) is a premier civil rights/human relations agency. Since 1913, the mission of ADL has been to fight Anti Semitism and all forms of bigotry. The ADL defends democratic ideals and protects civil rights for all people.

"Leading the efforts to deter and counter hate-motivated crimes, the League drafted model hate crimes legislation in 1981, covering all hate crimes. Forty-five states have since enacted laws based on or similar to the model."

Since President-Elect Donald Trump won the election last month there’s been an uptick in blatant racism, discrimination and hate crimes. The ADL has been working hard to address these issues and have an outlet for people to report any suspected hate crimes.

On June 17, 2015 Dylann Roof entered Emanuel AME Church, a predominantly African-American church in Charleston, South Carolina, and brutally killed nine people in an act of domestic terrorism. He was soon arrested and admitted to the crime.

As more details were released, it  became clear from Roof’s manifesto, found on his blog, that he was a white supremacist.

This tragic event has sparked a mission to end hate. The ADL launched a campaign#50StatesAgainstHate, which is a call to implement better hate crime laws nationwide. The ADL will partner with other civil rights and religious organizations, law enforcement groups, civic agencies and business leaders to push for push for better policy.
