Moment for moment, All Stars Season 2 was the strongest season of RuPaul’s Emmy-winning creation yet. It pretty much had to be. RuPaul has been perfecting a formula for the past eight years, and drafting people who already knew how to work within it was guaranteed to result in good TV.
The question now is: where does the show go from here? Once a countercultural experiment, RuPaul’s Drag Race now more closely resembles a mainstream hit. It once taught viewers new things about a subculture many of them knew nothing about. Now they’ve learned the lingo.
But those are question for Season 9, which isn’t that far away. For now, All Stars 2 is over. It left a beautiful corpse.
