25. Rory Helps Paris on Her First Date
Season 1, Episode 18 “The Third Lorelai”
Paris has had a crush on Tristan for years and when he finally asks her out she freaks out and goes to Rory for advice. Rory eases her fears while letting her borrow something to wear and helping Paris do her makeup. Despite the problems the girls had in the past, Rory genuinely wants the date to go well and Paris to be happy.
Paris is the type of person who has trouble making friends. She is afraid of what people think of her and cautious of letting anyone see her weak. She isn’t even willing to tell her other friends Madeline (Shelly Cole) and Louise (Teal Redmann) about her date because she is afraid of what they might say.
Rory has earned Paris’ trust because of the kindness she has shown, mostly when Paris doesn’t deserve it. While at this point in the show the girls aren’t necessarily friends, they are working towards understanding one another. Rory knows that Paris has a hard time trusting people and is always pleased when Paris turn to her for help. It takes Paris a little longer to see that Rory’s actions are not malicious and that she really is trying to help (especially once she finds out Rory is the one who convinced Tristan to ask her out in the first place).
