21. Lorelai Convinces Sookie to Ask Jackson Out
Season 1, Episode 11 “Paris is Burning” & Season 1, Episode 12 “Double Date”
Lorelai inadvertently helps Sookie’s love life by insulting her. Lorelai doesn’t know what to do about her increasingly serious relationship with Max (Scott Cohen). She is afraid that Rory is getting too attached to a guy she’s dating and worries about what will happen if they break up. She is also worried about her own growing feelings. When Sookie confronts her from running away Lorelai snaps and asks Sookie what she would know about relationships because she’s hasn’t dated in years. This insult, while true, is still very hurtful and prompts Sookie into action. She proceeds to ask out Jackson (Jackson), the man who sells produce to the inn.
Lorelai can be a selfish at times. She often gets caught up in her own life and forgets about her friend. It happens to the best of us. But when Sookie is worried about Jackson not stepping up after she made the first move, Lorelai gives her advice. She tells Sookie that it is okay if she is the one who asks Jackson out on a real date rather than waiting for him to call. (Remember this is the same woman who proposes to Luke in season five so you go girl.) She even goes with Sookie on said date because he has to bring his awful cousin Rune and she needs to be there to accompany him.
Lorelai is outspoken which oftentimes leads to her hurting her more sensitive friend. She always finds a way to make it up to Sookie though. Their ability to be honest with each other is a key part of their friendship and what makes them able to be business partners as well. They fight, but they always make up and apologize when they are wrong. Plus, Lorelai’s prodding leads to Sookie getting a date which eventually turns into marriage and kids. There isn’t a better way to be a friend than getting two soulmates together.
