27. How to Get Away With Murder- Annalise Keating
Speaking of How to Get Away With Murder, let’s not forget the brilliant and dangerous defense attorney herself, Annalise Keating (Viola Davis). The show follows this professor and her five students as they attempt to hide and avoid the secrets of their past. Currently on season 3, they’re finding it harder than they though.
The character’s sexual identity wasn’t revealed until a few episodes in, as a past relationship with a woman gained importance. Annalise and Eve Rothlo (Famke Janssen) first met while attending Harvard Law and fell for one another quickly. Annalise then, left Eve for a man, but the two still kept in touch. When her husband, Sam Keating (Tom Verica), was murdered, a flame between the two women started up again.
This is a woman who’s had previous relationships with both men and women, and doesn’t question it. She doesn’t hide it. This is also a woman who’s strong, confident, independent, and passionate. She’s hardworking and succeeds at her career. She puts her job first and doesn’t let much define her.
Annalise Keating is exactly who we need on television right now- someone who is so assured in themselves, it masks their vulnerabilities, making a fierce character and TV show.
