WEST HOLLYWOOD, CA – FEBRUARY 26: Actress Floriana Lima attends Vanity Fair, L’Oreal Paris,

22. Supergirl- Maggie Sawyer

Characters that don’t exist yet count, right? Well, I think they do, because I have high hopes for this one. When Supergirl returns for Season 2 on its new network, The CW, it’s bringing in a few more characters, and it’s getting a little gayer.

Supergirl, a female driven spin off of Clark Kent’s story, follows Kara Danvers (Melissa Benoist) and her navigation through normal life with Kryptonian powers. She has the help of her adoptive sister, Alex Danvers (Chyler Leigh). The show is showered with strong, female characters, and could only be made better by one thing- queer representation. So, that’s what they’re doing!

They’ve always set the bar high when it came to strong female leaders, and they haven’t disappointed yet. The introduction of Superman is sure to stir things up a bit, but we’re all hoping the introduction of this other new character will overpower Clark’s storyline.

Ali Adler, executive producer of the show, announced recently that Maggie Sawyer (Floriana Lima) will be a new addition this season and is confirmed to be gay. They also mentioned that a significant character is going to explore their sexuality this season. (*cough* Alex Danvers *cough*) But your guess is as good as mine…
