Olly Moss, who designed the covers for recent eBook editions of the Harry Potter novels, redesigns the cover of Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them.
Olly Moss is an English graphic artist who designed the covers to eBook editions of the seven main Harry Potter books. Behold his handiwork:
Now, he’s designed a cover for the upcoming eBook edition of Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, available on Pottermore on March 14, 2017. Check it out:Image: Pottermore
Nicely minimal, isn’t it? That fits with Moss’ designs for the original Potter novels—he’s developing a consistent aesthetic for the eBook-using Potter fan. I also like that there’s a visual joke on the cover, with the hippogriff’s hindquarters and head on opposite ends of the image.
If you’re a little hazy on the long, strange life of Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, this eBook has nothing to do with the upcoming movie of the same name. I mean…not directly. This is a faux-textbook “written” by wizard magizoologist Newt Scamander (actually J.K. Rowling writing under a pseudonym) and originally published back in 2001 in aid of the charity comic relief. Purportedly, it’s the same textbook Harry used during his time at Hogwarts. Only later did Rowling decide to tell Scamander’s story in movie form. We’ll likely see the genesis of this textbook when Fantastic Beasts hits theaters in November.
This latest edition will include a new forward from Rowling. Once again, some of the proceeds will go to Comic Relief.
For those who prefer hard copies, both Bloomsbury (UK) and Scholastic (US) are readying their own, non-eBook editions of Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them. We’ll hopefully get a look at those covers soon. With the film around the corner, fantastic beasts are everywhere.
