1. Jurassic Park

Okay, hear me out on this one. Steven Spielberg’s 1993 classic Jurassic Park would make an incredible stage production because of the sense of awe it evokes in the viewer. Theater itself is nothing short of wonder. Seeing characters and environments come alive before your very eyes every night made from nothing but a stage, some props, and actors is pure magic. And that is exactly what Jurassic Park is. It is the story of Alan Grant (Sam Neill) and his discovery of a world where dinosaurs are not extinct as he previously believed. And while everything falls apart pretty quickly, the film is built on this idea of a very far fetched dream coming true.

Puppets and creative costuming like The Lion King could be used to bring these majestic dinosaurs to life. If Disney can bring a giraffe to the stage what is so different from a brontosaurs? The scenes involving the tyrannosaurus rex may be a little more difficult to pull off, but just pull a Jaws and only show it at certain times and angles and it just might work. Add velociraptors stalking their prey up and down the aisles and you would have an audience full of delighted and slightly frightened children (and adults too).

John Williams’ iconic score could still be used alongside songs with lyrics for a Jurassic Park musical. How about a song between Alan and Lexi called “I’m Not Going to Leave You”? There wouldn’t be a dry eye in the house. Plus give Dr. Ian Malcolm a preening, show stopping number about chaos theory and you have a character who will be an instant favorite. We know Jeff Goldblum can already sing so someone sign him up quick.
