#14: Triangle
In season five’s Triangle¸ you reallllly have to want to believe to wrap your head around what’s happening. Mulder’s on a boat in the Bermuda Triangle, but the boat’s really a pre-WWII era British ship lost at sea. Scully’s back at the bureau trying to locate and rescue Mulder, but really, she’s on the boat, too, only she’s a badass socialite in 1939. Like I said, it’s a weird one.
While Real Mulder is trying to escape the past (and the Bermuda Triangle), Real Scully is scampering around the bureau, evading her supervisors’ instructions and ordering around all the men in the office to save her missing partner.
Meanwhile on the boat, Fake Scully has met Real Mulder, and, though off-put by his insistence that she looks familiar, helps him escape capture and execution by Nazi spies who have infiltrated the ship.
Basically, Scully in any century, in any situation, on land or on the open sea, will save the damn day. And no one appreciates this more than Mulder.
After his rescue, he tries to tell Scully all about her counterpart on the ship, but of course, the skeptic within her dismisses his story, and his gratitude (and let’s just say it- pure adoration) for her are met with only the Sculliest of all possible responses.
